The advantages and disadvantages of strain gauge measurement

date:2024-12-16 from:handler click:17

Strain gauge measurement advantages:

(1) High measurement sensitivity and accuracy. Its minimum strain reading is 1με (micro-strain, 1με=1×10-6ε) and the accuracy can reach 1~2% at room temperature.

(2) Wide measurement range. Can measure 1~20000με.

(3) Good frequency response. Dynamic strains from static to hundreds of thousands of Hertz can be measured.

(4) Strain gauge size is small, light weight. The minimum strain gauge grid length can be as short as 0.1 mm, which is easy to install and does not affect the stress state of the member.

(5) The output electrical signal in the measurement process can be made into various sensors.

(6) Can be measured in a variety of complex environments. Such as high, low temperature, high-speed rotation, strong magnetic field and other environmental measurement.

Although strain measurement has the above advantages, it also has disadvantages:

(1) Only the surface strain of the component can be measured, but the internal strain of the component can not be measured.

(2) A strain gauge can only measure the strain of a point on the surface of the component in a certain direction, but cannot be measured region-wide.
