Pressure sensors, also commonly referred to as pressure transmitters, are sensors that convert pressure into an analog electrical signal. Although there are many types of pressure sensors, the most common ones are those based on strain gauges.
The conversion of the pressure to the electrical signal is accomplished by physical deformation of the strain gauge bonded to the pressure sensor diaphragm and connected to a Wheatstone bridge. The pressure of the pressure sensor causes the deflection of the diaphragm and strains the measuring tool. This strain produces a change in electrical resistance proportional to the pressure.
